Advertisement means publicity of making the demand for goods in the market. The mass media is flooded with advertisements of every kind. It has created a new era and brought a revolutionary change in the realm of business, trade, and commerce. One only has to flip through the pages of magazines or newspapers or sit through a television program to see the wide coverage that advertisements receive in terms of space and time. Companies fork out large amounts of money just to advertise their products or services. It can enhance sales only if they promise a benefit to the consumer. Advertisement thus also aims to inspire trust and loyalty.

Advertisements for goods promote sales; widen the fields of businesses and increase profit. What, then, are the benefits of advertisements? Advertisements offer a wide variety of options to both potential buyers and sellers. The intention of advertisement is usually to create demand: to make members of the public want to buy a product. Through advertisements, employers can recruit workers. People who wish to put up their properties for sale can find buyers or vice versa. Thus, adverts aim to show a product’s usefulness.

Advertisement is also used to maintain existing demand. Although there are grouses about advertisements, the numerous benefits of advertisements remain undisputed. As well as creating new customers, adverts try to ensure that existing customers stay interested in the products. Advertisements are the lifeblood of many television and radio stations. Many companies build a reputation for their products through advertisements. Sometimes companies sponsor major sporting events and help in the development of sports in the country.

Advertisements inform the public about the wide array of products that are available in the market and how much they cost. The viewers become spell-bound, thundered, astonished, and madded with enjoying these styled advertisements on the T.V. screen, over radios, and in the newspapers. Customers can compare the prices and merits of the different products and then decide which product to buy. Advertisements help increase the sales volume of products. In this way, companies expand their business and enjoy economies of scale.

Adverts often try to capture the spirit of the time. As with most things in life, advertisements can be both a bane or a boon. They can be fun and entertaining to watch. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the advantages of advertisements far outweigh the disadvantages and it is up to the discerning public to discard the advertisements which do not profess the truth. But they also have a pragmatic purpose: to get the general public interested in parting with their money.
